The UCI decided this morning to cancel the 3rd and final stage of the CIC Tour of the Pyrenees for women. This decision is the result of a lack of safety on the race route, during which the cyclists were exposed to risks deemed too great.
Within the FDJ-SUEZ team and in all our major decisions, we have always put the health and integrity of our athletes first, so that they can perform and flourish in a supervised and safe sport. Under no circumstances will we accept FDJ-SUEZ athletes risking their lives on a bike.
This event was a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of women’s cycling, just a few weeks before the start of the 2nd edition of the Women Tour de France with Zwift. We regret the result.
Cyclists, athletes’ representatives, institutions, team managers… Let’s learn all the lessons from this event and get to work very quickly with the race organisers to guarantee all the conditions necessary for the success and safety of professional cycling events. To continue to grow our sport.
