In the Women’s Samyn, Vittoria Guazzini dominated the race over the 114.8km course from Quaregnon to Dour.
She won the race, overtaking Anniina Ahtosalo (Uno-X Mobility) and Christina Schweinberger (Fenix-Deceuninck) in a great final sprint. This victory marks an important step for Vittoria, which has achieved its first major success on the road and validates its previous performances where it finished third in 2022 and 2023.
The outcome of the race was decided with around 54km to go, when Vittoria, alongside Schweinberger and Aintila (Lotto Dstny Ladies), took the lead. Despite a crash for Aintila, Guazzini and Schweinberger were able to hold on to the lead and eventually pulled away from the pack to fight it out for victory, which was won by Vittoria.
This victory in the Samyn des Dames adds a fourth trophy to FDJ-SUEZ’s already successful season, following on from Grace Brown’s victory in the Australian Championships, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig’s victory in stage 2 of the Tour Down Under, and Amber Kraak’s victory in stage 4 of the UAE Tour.
With this winning momentum, FDJ-SUEZ heads to the Strade Bianche, ready to take on another major Women’s World Tour challenge, scheduled for 2 March 2024 in Italy.
