On the white roads of Tuscany, the Dutch rider once again used her power and tactical sense to dominate a breathless final. She finished ahead of her compatriot Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime), while French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Visma-Lease a Bike) completed the podium.

An intense race scenario

Right from the start of the 136km race around Siena, the pace set by the favourite teams was high. An initial breakaway of seven riders, including Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Évita Muzic (FDJ-Suez), formed with 40km to go. Whilst the Frenchwoman from Visma-Lease a Bike tried to dynamise the race, Vollering’s team-mates Juliette Labous and Évita Muzic managed the pace perfectly to allow their leader to catch up.

On the Colle Pinzuto, with 18km to go, Demi Vollering accelerated for the first time. Van der Breggen’s response was swift, and the two Dutch riders broke away at the front of the race. Behind them, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Juliette Labous battled to stay in touch.

A high-flying duel

Colle Tolfe served as the judge of peace. With 5km to go, Van der Breggen tried a final attack, but Vollering kept his composure before counter-attacking with 400m to go on the mythical Piazza del Campo. The FDJ-Suez leader was more powerful on the final gradients and crossed the line alone, arms raised, for her second Strade Bianche victory after her success in 2023.

‘Everyone was waiting for me here and I really wanted to reward the work of my team.
