Defying all expectations, she took the lead in a sprint that beat the race favourites to the punch.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expected to be the big favourites, Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) and Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx &#8211; Protime), 2nd and 3rd respectively, were edged out by a daring Grace Brown who pulled out all the stops in a breathtaking final. At the age of 31, the Australian not only won her first Monument, but also gave her FDJ-Suez team one of the biggest victories in its history.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The race saw a group of six women, including three favourites and three of the day&#8217;s breakaways, battle it out for victory on the Quai des Ardennes. In the decisive moments of the race, when Longo Borghini seemed on the verge of victory, Brown launched an impressive sprint and overtook her just 25 metres from the finish line.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Journey Full of Trials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 153km race wasn&#8217;t all plain sailing for Grace, who had to deal with an early breakaway and a crash in the final that could have jeopardised her chances.
