The team delivered a true demonstration of collective strength at the start of the Belgian classics season. Ideally protected by her teammates, European champion Demi Vollering won convincingly in Ninove, securing her first career victory at the Omloop Nieuwsblad.
Throughout the 135-kilometre race, the team set the pace to put their leader in the best possible position. The work began with an initial attack by Elise around 30 kilometres from the finish. Juliette and Elise then played a crucial role in protecting Demi from the wind on the day’s nine hills and cobbled sections.
The decision was made on the legendary Mur de Grammont. After a huge relay from German champion Franziska, Demi took the lead by setting a very fast pace. This acceleration caused the leading group to break apart, with only Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) managing to stay in her wake at the top.
A controlled finish
The leading duo worked together perfectly in Bosberg to maintain their lead over a peloton that had been disrupted by a crash. With 16 kilometres to go, victory was assured for the two women.
True to form, Demi launched her sprint at 150 metres to power past Niewiadoma. Behind them, the peloton crossed the line 21 seconds later, led by Lorena Wiebes.
A solid team performance
With this victory, Demi has already racked up four wins this season. Beyond the victory, the team put in a strong overall performance, with four of its members finishing in the top 15.
