This Sunday in Saluzzo, following a week of intense racing across Italy’s most beautiful mountain passes, Demi Vollering secured one of the most prestigious trophies in women’s cycling for FDJ UNITED – SUEZ. The Dutch rider claimed the overall classification of the 2026 Giro d’Italia Women, crowning a week of absolute collective dominance — punctuated by three stage wins for the team and takes the maglia rosa.
On the final climb of the day, the European champion went all out and managed to pull away from the pink jersey holder, Anna van der Breggen (Team SD Worx Protime), with less than 40 kilometres to go, closing the gap on the race leaders.
Speaking into the microphone at the finish line, an emotional Demi said: ‘It’s crazy, it feels so unreal. We’d already worked out this plan last night.’ A plan executed to perfection, thanks to a flawless team effort throughout the week
The Grand Tours trilogy is now complete
This victory is a historic achievement. By winning this Giro, Demi Vollering joins Annemiek van Vleuten as the only female rider to have won all three Grand Tours.
A team worthy of the occasion
Behind Demi, the whole FDJ United – SUEZ team is shining. From Stage 5 onwards, Vollering opened the scoring at Santo Stefano di Cadore, winning the sprint finish at the end of a queen stage in the Dolomites featuring four mountain passes. She did it again on Stage 8, at the summit of Colle delle Finestre, in the final kilometre ahead of Isabella Holmgren and Antonia Niedermaier.
The week was also marked by Célia Géry’s first professional victory in a Grand Tour, as she won the sprint finish at Salice Terme on Stage 7, ahead of Lucinda Brand and Chantal Pegolo. This is the young French rider’s third professional victory, confirming her immense potential.
