Célia Géry crowned French road cycling champion

On Saturday 27 June, in La Tour-du-Pin (Isère), Célia Géry claimed the tricolour jersey in the elite road race at the French Road Cycling Championships. At just 20 years of age, she has achieved the most prestigious victory of her young road racing career, succeeding her team-mate Marie Le Net on the winners’ list.

Over the 111.4 km of a demanding circuit, featuring the Saint-Roch and Béjui climbs, the team controlled the race perfectly. Evita Muzic and Léa Curinier kept the race under control in the early stages, before Juliette Berthet took charge of the final stretch to thwart all attempts by the opposition. In the final three kilometres, at the foot of the Béjui (1 km at 8.4%), Célia Géry launched her final attack. Her surge was unstoppable and no rival could keep up with her.

She crossed the line 5 seconds ahead of Cédrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly), who finished second, and 7 seconds ahead of Émilie Morier (St Michel-Preference Home-Auber 93), who finished third.mega

Having already claimed the cyclo-cross title in January, Célia Géry has now secured her fourth road race victory of the season, following the Flèche Brabançonne, the Grand Prix de Chambéry and a stage win at the Giro d’Italia Women. Her list of achievements is still growing for a rider who has yet to finish writing her story.
