Breton enthusiasm and distinctive jerseys for this first stage of the 2025 Tour de France

Stage 1 – Vannes > Plumelec (78,8km)

A dynamic start for the 2025 Tour de France Femmes

The 2025 Tour de France Femmes kicked off on Saturday 26 July in Vannes, with a short but fast-paced first stage covering 78.8 km to Plumelec. The race began in Brittany on hilly terrain, ending at the top of the Côte de Cadoudal, which was climbed three times in the final stretch.

A breakaway of two riders formed in the early kilometres, before being caught 46 km from the finish. The race then remained lively and tense, marked by several attacks launched in the final circuit, all neutralised by a vigilant peloton.

The final stretch, tailor-made for puncheurs, played out on the final climb up the Côte de Cadoudal (1.7 km at 6.2%), where an initial hierarchy began to emerge among the favourites in the general classification.

The FDJ-SUEZ team got off to a strong and controlled start, with a solid collective performance throughout the stage. Demi finishes at the 5th place behind Marianne Vos (Visma – Lease a Bike) at 13′, victorious on the day, confirming her status as a contender for the overall title, and Elise grabs polka jersey best climber. The team also takes the lead in the team rankings after this first day.

Heading for stage 2: Brest – Quimper (110.4 km)

On Sunday 27 July, the peloton will set off from Brest for a 110.4 km stage towards Quimper. The route, which is entirely within the Finistère department, will follow the coast for most of the day before a more hilly finish. The Chemin de Trohéir climb (1.1 km at 5.7%), located five kilometres from the finish line, could upset the sprinters’ plans. An open stage, conducive to several scenarios.
