Less than a week after her victory in the Surf Coast Classic, Ally Wollaston once again shone on Australian roads by winning the Cadel Evans Road Race (1.WWT) on Saturday.
Thanks to perfect race management and invaluable support from her team-mates, the New Zealander gave the team its first World Tour victory of the season.
Long of 141,8 kilometers, the Cadel Evans Road Race was marked by several attacks and a sustained pace. While the first attempts at a breakaway, notably those of Babette van der Wolf (EF education – oatly) and Stine Dale (team coop – repsol), livened up the first part of the race, the peloton remained vigilant.
At the start of the decisive climb to Challambra Crescent (1.1km at 9%), the peloton became nervous and a number of attacks began to emerge.
Despite the difficulty of the route, Ally remained in control, managing to keep up with the best climbers before positioning herself ideally for the final sprint at Geelong. With her impressive power, she made all the difference against her rivals to raise her arms at the end of the race.
A second victory in a week
Ally Wollaston, who already finished second on the Tour Down Under and won the Surf Coast Classic, has confirmed her excellent start to the season in her new colours. This World Tour success marks another important step for the team and reinforces the group’s ambitions for the rest of the season.
« Winning my first World Tour race with FDJ-SUEZ is immensely satisfying. The team did an incredible job of putting me in the best possible conditions and I’m delighted to be able to offer them this victory. It’s a great momentum and I can’t wait to build on it.. » – Ally Wollaston
With this second victory in Australia, the FDJ-SUEZ team confirms its excellent start to the season and continues to show its ambitions on the international circuit.
