The 2025 season has got off to the best possible start for the FDJ-Suez team, which won the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana (13-16 February) thanks to Demi Vollering, who was in fine form. The Dutch rider, who was making her debut with the French outfit, quickly made her mark by winning the first stage before going on to take the overall final classification.
Stage 1 : Alzira > Gandia 112 km
Demi Vollering off to a flying start
From the very first stage, Demi Vollering demonstrated all her power and tactical sense. After working well together, she made a decisive attack on the climb of the Alto de Barx, with around twenty kilometres to go. Only Anna Van der Breggen (SD worx protime) tried to keep up with her, but was beaten by the unstoppable Demi Vollering. With a lead of more than a minute over the chasers, the new FDJ-Suez rider took the leader’s jersey on the first day.
Stage 2 : Benicàssim > Nules 134 km
Controlled management on the second stage, which ended in a bunch sprint. Demi Vollering played it safe and crossed the line in fourth place, retaining her lead in the overall classification. Mischa Bredewold (SD worx protime) won the second stage.
Stage 3 : Sagunt > València 118 km
The scenario was repeated on the third stage, where Élise Chabbey finished in the top 10 (9th). Demi, always well supported by her team-mates, managed her effort and defended her position as leader, while Elisa Balsamo (Lidl Trek) won the stage in a sprint.
Stage 4 : València > Alacant 132.5 km
On the final day, the FDJ-Suez team controlled the race perfectly, preventing any attack that might jeopardise Demi Vollering’s final victory. Once again, Elisa Balsamo threw up her arms, but the main thing was assured for Demi, who scored her first win in the colours of FDJ-Suez.
By winning this Setmana Ciclista Valenciana 2025, Demi Vollering struck a blow in his first meeting with the team. The win confirms the team’s ambitions for the season and highlights the quality of the team.
