Yesterday, the streets of Privas resounded with applause for Marta Cavalli. By maintaining her position on the final stage from Beauchastel to Privas, covering 69.2km, Cavalli not only retained her leader’s jersey, she also won the overall classification.
His victory on Mont-Lozère during the fifth stage was decisive for his final triumph.
Cavalli’s performance was not the only reason for the team to celebrate. Evita Muzic, also a member of the team, came fifth overall.
In his own words, Cavalli said: “We were fully concentrated. With a slender lead of 14 seconds, every moment was crucial. Referring to the perilous descent of the final stage, she added: “It was technical, but the presence of my team-mates reassured me.”
These victories mark the 18th and 19th wins of the year for the FDJ-SUEZ team, making 2023 the most prolific season in the team’s history.
