In a legendary 2026 edition, the team retained its title in Piazza del Campo. Following Demi Vollering’s victory last year, Switzerland’s Élise Chabbey triumphed this Saturday in Siena, after a final of rare intensity and a completely unpredictable scenario.
Starting out as a star teammate tasked with protecting Demi Vollering, Élise Chabbey was given the role of leader following a series of circumstances.
Far from being discouraged, the team turned the race around. Already on the offensive 49 kilometres from the finish line in Colle Pinzuto, Elise showed extraordinary resilience, refusing to give up even when the favourites seemed to have taken the lead.
The suspense lasted until the very last metres. Eight runners were still in contention at the foot of the gruelling Via Santa Catarina, the final judge of the race.
Led by Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto), the leading group literally exploded on the steep slopes of Via Santa Caterina. At the front, Germany’s Franziska Koch did a tremendous job behind the scenes, marking every attack by her opponents to protect her team’s chances. In a particularly tactical final kilometre, Élise drew on her last reserves to overtake her rivals in the final bend before the descent to the square. Crossing the line as the winner in Piazza del Campo, she finished ahead of Niewiadoma and her teammate Franziska, who completed an exceptional podium for the team by taking third place.
