A few days after her European victory, Demi Vollering shone once again on Tuesday 7 October at the Trois Vallées Varésines. At the end of 137 kilometres, the European champion from FDJ-SUEZ took second place, beaten in the sprint by Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ).
The day was marked by a steady pace over the six laps of the circuit, before the final climb up the Salita dei Ronchi (1.9 km at 5.3%). Very active on the climbs, Demi made several accelerations in the final kilometres in an attempt to distance herself from her rival. The two riders broke away about four kilometres from the finish and battled it out for the victory in a sprint finish.
Behind them, Juliette Labous once again confirmed her consistency by taking 5th place, after working hard to support her leader at the decisive moments of the day’s race. The Frenchwoman finished in the same group as the chasing pack, nineteen seconds behind the leading duo.
